Department Overview

• Established in 1994 with the inception of Sundaram Medical Foundation by Dr. Arjun Rajagopalan
  
• Developed into a comprehensive surgical unit providing high-quality care under his leadership and guidance 
• Early adopter of laparoscopic (minimal access) surgery, introduced in 1996 
• Involved in surgical training for NBE-accredited residents and CRRIs since 2000 
• HD laparoscopic equipment installed in 2007 
• Dedicated short-stay surgical centre established in 2009

The department offers comprehensive surgical management including: 

• General and laparoscopic surgery 
• Gastrointestinal surgery: laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, colectomy, etc. 
• Laparoscopic hernia surgery 
• Surgery for abdominal wall hernias 
• Complex abdominal wall reconstruction 
• Breast and thyroid surgery for benign and malignant conditions 
• Emergency surgery for acute abdomen 
• Trauma surgery involving chest, abdomen, and limbs
