The Department Of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at SMF is committed to championing women’s health care. We provide obstetrics, gynaecologic and reproductive health care to women of all ages in the local communities through excellence in clinical care, education and research. All the senior consultants have more than 25 years of experience in the field and have worked together as a team for more than two decades.

Milestones

We specialise in high-risk obstetrics with support from the paediatrics, anaesthesiology, general medicine and ICU teams. We are a referral centre for obstetrics. We conduct regular audits on Caesarean section rates, term infants’ NICU admissions, and infection rates following deliveries and surgeries. All these rates are well within the acceptable limits as laid down by international societies, and we attribute this to following recognised guidelines in our practice.

Routine breast and cervical cancer screening in outpatient clinics
PAP smear and Colposcopy services on an outpatient basis for early detection of cervical cancer
Taking every opportunity to encourage women to vaccinate themselves / their daughters against HPV
Women presenting with abdominal distension or postmenopausal women with symptoms of vaginal bleeding are fast-tracked through the OP clinic to diagnose ovarian and uterine cancers by examination and early ultrasound, other labs and imaging
Cancer treatment : All pelvic cancer surgeries are done in collaboration with the Oncology surgeon

The inpatient block at Shanthi Colony, Annanagar, operates the OBG walk-in clinic / labour room with 24/7 senior consultant input and supervision
For emergencies related to pregnancies like ectopic pregnancy, bleeding in pregnancy, and heavy menstrual bleeding
Our senior consultants are all trained in conventional open and endoscopic surgeries. We keep ourselves up-to-date with the latest innovations in surgery by regularly attending conferences, webinars and workshops

Facilities

Our labour room is staffed with trained nurses dedicated to providing compassionate care and support to the labouring women. We deliver approximately 1,500 women annually in a well-equipped labour room with round-the-clock facilities and staff both doctors and nursing to continuously monitor the mother and the baby
Our labour rooms are constantly supervised by senior doctors and senior nursing staff 24*7
