Dr. S. Rangarajan

• Sundaram Medical Foundation was the brainchild of Dr. S. Rangarajan. A member of the TVS family (son of late Mr. T. S. Santhanam and Mrs. Padma Santhanam), and a Chartered Accountant and an MBA in Finance, he sought greater fulfillment by changing course at the age of 30 and transitioning into a career in Medicine, completing his MBBS at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and MD in General Medicine at Madras Medical College.
• After extensive consultations and planning in collaboration with the Anna Nagar community, SMF was founded in 1994 with the staunch support of Mr. T. S. Santhanam, and the Sundaram Finance Group, launching with an initial strength of 50 patient beds. From inception, and while growing in size over the years, SMF continues to operate in line with his vision.
• In his own words, Dr. Rangarajan’s strived to establish “a hospital, providing quality health care, which is cost-effective and community-centered, in an environment which is clean, caring and responsive to the needs of the patient”. His vision resulted in the creation of everything SMF is today, as we carry forward his aspiration and dream for SMF to serve as an exemplar and role model for impactful community centered healthcare delivery in India.
