The Department of Neurosurgery started just after the hospital’s inception in 1990. The Department commenced its operation with general neurosurgical procedures, primarily focusing on managing head-injured and stroke patients. With the addition of an Operating microscope and micro-neurosurgical instruments, surgery for brain and spinal cord tumours and spinal surgeries, including micro-discectomies, corpectomies and instrumented fusions, were added and are now part of regular procedures performed. The operating microscope was upgraded to a state-of-art one during the latter part of the last decade.
Milestones
- Our patient outcomes are as good and comparable with the other centres of excellence. This, combined with our economical tariffs, makes us an excellent choice/destination for patients requiring neurosurgical care.
- The team has contributed to leading neurosurgical scientific journals and textbooks and made presentations at national/international scientific forums/conferences. They are also involved in training post-graduate students in Neurosurgery.
Facilities
- The department is ably supported by an excellently run ICU manned by highly trained Intensivists and support staff, along with a highly experienced anaesthesia team in the operating rooms. This has helped us to perform the whole gamut of neurosurgical procedures
- In the near future, we expect to add Neuro-endoscopy, Stereotaxy and Navigation equipment.
